Genealogy
The Gwyndolyn Collins Turner Reading Room houses the genealogy collection at the Demopolis Public Library. We also have a number of books on genealogy in Marengo County, Alabama, and the South. We have limited family histories and bible records that are available for public access. Our collection is available to use within the library only.
The Wallace Harper Conference Room houses our collection of microfilm including cenus records and historic newspapers. We also have a microfilm reader and printer avilable to those doing research. (copies are .10 cents for Black and White and .50 for Color.) However, most of the microfilm census records and historic newpapers have neen digitized, so they are available in DVD format. The Demopolis Public Library is proud to offer a special collection reflecting the history of the Alabama, Marengo County and particularly Demopolis. The collection consists of books, microfilm and DVDs. Included are the Luke Bragg Collection and the Winston Smith collection.
